Last week I sewed up this gorgeous silk and lace b

Last week I sewed up this gorgeous silk and lace bra and it reminded me of one of my first makes where I did a 6 week sewing class and learnt the hard way, I decided to sew a dress using a really fine silk! (Btw sewing silk is much harder than most other fabrics!) 😅

I guess there's no surpise, the dress never got finished but not just because I struggled to sew with it.

I did quite a job considering, but the other thing I didn’t take into account was the charateristics of the silk fabric. It was a very fine silk (more suited to scarves) and it just was not the type of silk to make a dress from. If I had of finished it, it probably wouldn't have draped very well and would have ‘stuck’ to me and annoyed me, (knowing me!)

Knowing what types of different fabrics are suitable for different garments is so so key! It can literally make or break the garment! (and potentially could be costly!)

And this is even more true with sewing lingerie!

Knowing these foundations for lingerie sewing is so key for having a successful project and could make the difference from you never wanting to sew your own lingerie again to feeling so excited with your first make that you now want to create your dream lingerie drawer! 💃 👙

You’ll be able to make 2-3 pairs of period pants from this kit but I know past customers have been able to make up to 5 as they’ve also used their own elastic and knicker fabric with the remanding technical fabrics left.

These knickers will literally last you years!

Don’t get me wrong I love cotton! ☁️

And whilst it’s soft against the skin, and is a natural fibre, it also holds onto moisture.

Whilst this is excellent for the absorbent layer of the period panty/pad, it’s not so great for the lining against the skin as it will stay wet, making it feel very uncomfortable when wearing.

A lot of sports performance fabrics are synthetic which wick away moisture from the body and the fabric does not hold onto the moisture, but these are usually polyesters or nylons which aren’t great for sensitive areas of the body. 😬

However there is one fabric that does it all and that’s bamboo jersey! 🤩

Bamboo jersey is super soft and slinky against the skin ✅
And it is very good at wicking moisture away from the body ✅

Which is why all Sew Projects period panty kits have bamboo jersey in!

The last pattern tester showcase for the Willow So

The last pattern tester showcase for the Willow Soft Cup Bra! ✨

This lovely set is made by @gravitybygrandy which is a Harry Potter inspired set. How amazing! She used a scallop edge lace for the neckline which looks super pretty!

She also made the #pennyknickers to match too which are my beginner friendly pattern made with rigid/woven fabrics. I love the combination. 🤩

I love the creative designs I’ve been seeing with the Willow and I love how easy it is to be creative with it due to the mix of fabric types in the cup.

She made up a cup size 5 and 34 band (34D)

She said “I love the design and style”

She reported that the cups were slightly east west for her body shape. (Meaning the cups direction goes slightly outwards.)
I’ll be showing you how to rectify this issue in the fitting resource that’s coming out soon.

Pattern tester showcase ✨

In photo one the tester made up a 3 cup size and band 38 (38A).

"I found it exciting and challenging to do. I'm looking forward to making more Willow bras and getting the knicker pattern to match!"

The tester in photo 2 made up a cup size 1 and band 32. She found the cup seam did not match her bust point. (The seam was too much towards the CF.) I will be addressing this and how to rectify this in my fit resource that is going to be released especially for the Willow Soft Cup Bra soon!

The tester in photo 2 made up a cup size 1 and band 32 (32A). She said she found the bra very comfortable but the cup shape was not quite right. There was too much fabric above the bust point but not enough below it.
After the testing, I changed the cup shape on cup sizes 1-3 so this now reflects the preferred cup shape.

Photo 4 is a summary of some of the comments I received from all of the pattern testers.
